COVID-19 Update

Comrades,

As of March 18, The Royal Canadian Legion, Kanata Branch #638 will be closed for all events and activities until further notice.  Imperative administrative work for a small group of named people will continue as required.

***For those who don’t know, Catch the Ace is a progressive raffle where a deck of cards is placed in sealed envelopes and numbered 1 to 52.  Players purchase for $5.00 a ticket on which their name and envelope number guess is placed.  Weekly, a draw is conducted and one envelope is opened.

If the winner picks the ACE OF SPADES, they win half of the weekly sales plus the accumulated pot.  If other than the ACE OF SPADES is drawn, the winner gets 20% of weekly sales and 30% is added to the accumulated pot.  The process continues until the ACE is caught.

In all cases 50% of the revenue goes to the Branch with the only expense being the $9.00 weekly license fee to the City of Ottawa.

The proposed is as follows:

  • Willing participants would forward payment of forty dollars, preferably by E-transfer which would result in their entry of one ticket in the weekly Friday Draw for 8 weeks.
  • The committee would need to know your 3 choices of envelope numbers from the following remaining numbers: 1, 2, 3, 8, 11, 12, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 31, 32, 35, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 49, 50, 51, 52

E-transfer is available to anyone who does on-line banking and committee co-chair comrade Clay Wheaton is willing to process deposits through his personal account accessible via   claywheaton@rogers.com

Verifiable documentation would be available upon request including proof of entry for each draw.

For persons not using on-line banking, the alternate method of payment is by cheque,

payable to KANATA LEGION.  Please indicate on the cheque it is for the Catch the Ace Club and send via snail mail or drop off the cheque in the mail slot at the Legion.
